Centerport is located on the North Shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York.
The North Shore of Long Island was named the Gold Coast because of all the mansions that the rich and famous built along the beautiful shoreline. William Kissam Vanderbilt II built the Vanderbilt Estate in Centerport. It is now the Vanderbilt Museum and houses a planetarium.
Centerport is in the Harborfields Central School District. More than 95% of Harborfields teachers have earned master's degrees, and each year staff members participate in training and professional growth programs designed to keep their knowledge and skills current. Harborfields High School has received a silver medal in the annual ranking of the nation’s top high schools, as reviewed by US News and World Reports magazine for 2009.
